Ms. Gillis teaches Middle School Spanish and is the World Languages Department Chair at Hilton Head Prep. She graduated summa cum laude from Furman University. After college she volunteered for 18 months at the orphanage Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos in Miacatlan, Mexico, where she taught English and was a caregiver in an elementary boys’ dorm. She has also taught middle and upper school Spanish in Darlington, SC, and in Zermatt, Switzerland, and used her Spanish to volunteer with refugees on the US/ Mexico border. She was born and raised on the Island and loves being back with her husband, Humberto. When not at Prep, you can find her running, swimming, biking, walking, and kayaking around the island.
Bethany Battig Ramseur is an upper school Spanish teacher at Hilton Head Prep. She holds a Spanish Masters degree in Latin American Literature from the University of Georgia and loves learning more about world languages and cultures. Her passions include teaching students to expand their horizons, listen to new music, film and television, and dip their toes into history and current events they may not have heard of, and interact with people from different backgrounds. Mrs. BatRam is a Past President of the AATSP of South Carolina, Los Delfines chapter sponsor for the Sociedad honoraria hispánica (Spanish Honor Society), Interact faculty advisor, and recently enjoyed bringing the first South Carolina high school Spanish competition to fruition with a team of great world language educators across the state at the University of South Carolina.
